Smoothies dry like any puree: evenly and predictably. Poured into silicone molds, they turn into colorful bites that kids love. Ground into powder, they become a single-serve mix you can shake up with water or milk.
Keep added fat low. A spoonful of peanut butter or coconut milk is fine for bites eaten within months, but it shortens storage.
Prep and loading
- Blend fruit, a little yogurt or juice, and greens if you like.
- Pour ½ inch deep into lined trays or silicone molds.
- Freeze solid, then load.
- Weigh a serving before drying to know how much water to add back.
How to tell it’s done
- Bites are crisp through the center and pop out of molds cleanly.
Not sure? The weight check compares two weighings and the expected dry weight for smoothies.
Problems and fixes
Bites are sticky
High sugar from juice or very ripe fruit. Use whole fruit and yogurt, and load less.
Rehydrating and storing
Rehydrate: Blend powder with water or milk; or eat the bites dry. By weight, 100 g of dried smoothies takes back about 547 g of water to return to fresh weight; the rehydration calculator does any amount.
Store: Jars or mylar with oxygen absorbers.
Ways to use it
- Breakfast on the go
- Kid snacks
- Travel smoothies
How much fits per batch
At a normal single layer, smoothies load at roughly 2.6 lb of fresh food per square foot of tray. That works out to:
| Machine | Fresh per batch | Dried per batch |
|---|---|---|
| Harvest Right Countertop 360 | 6.5 lb | 16.0 oz |
| Harvest Right Small | 7.8 lb | 1.21 lb |
| Harvest Right Medium | 12.2 lb | 1.88 lb |
| Harvest Right Large | 20.0 lb | 3.09 lb |
| Harvest Right X-Large | 40.6 lb | 6.29 lb |
