About
About Freeze Dry Math
Freeze Dry Math is a small independent website about home freeze-drying. It has 9 calculators and notes on 72 foods, and it exists because the answers to everyday freeze-drying questions were scattered across manufacturer pages, extension PDFs, shop charts and very long Facebook threads.
Who is behind it
The site is run by a small independent publisher who builds reference websites, and it is written and checked with the help of AI tools. We want to be straightforward about that: we are not food scientists, and we do not run a test kitchen. We have not invented a team of experts or a homesteading family to put on this page.
What we do instead is careful sourcing. Machine numbers come from the manufacturer’s published specifications. Water content comes from USDA FoodData Central. Food safety advice follows university extension services, chiefly Utah State University Extension, whose 2026 guide Can I Freeze-Dry That? is the most thorough public guidance on home freeze-drying, along with Penn State, Iowa State and Minnesota Extension. Each page lists the sources it relies on.
What we don’t claim
- Cycle times are typical ranges, not measurements from our own machine. Your machine’s sensors decide when food is done.
- Calculators that use a rule of thumb (batch time, bag counts) say so on the page.
- We are not affiliated with Harvest Right or any other manufacturer, and nobody pays us to mention a product.
- Nothing here replaces food safety guidance from USDA or your extension office, or advice from your doctor for medical or infant feeding questions.
Corrections
If a number doesn’t match your machine, a manufacturer changes a spec, or a food note is wrong, please email hello@freezedrymath.com. We fix errors and update the date on the page. See how we check numbers for details on each source.
Advertising
The site may show ads to cover its costs. Ads never decide what a page says, and we will mark any affiliate links clearly if we add them.
